Coppola Screening "Twixt" Footage @ San Diego Comic-Con

Director/writer Francis Ford Coppola is touting his latest feature film "Twixt", currently in post-production, as "...one part Gothic romance, one part personal film, and one part the kind of horror film that began my career..."

Coppola said the story for the film was inspired by the works of authors Edgar Allan Poe and Nathaniel Hawthorne and came to him during a 'vivid dream' while visiting Istanbul.

The $7 million gothic thriller from American Zoetrope, stars Val Kilmer as writer 'Hall Baltimore', Bruce Dern as 'Sheriff Bobby LaGrange', Ben Chaplin as 'Edgar Allan Poe', Elle Fanning as 'V', Joanne Whalley as 'Denise', David Paymer as 'Sam Malkin', Ryan Simpkins as 'Carolyne' and Don Novello as 'Melvin' :

"...a writer with a declining career arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl. That night in a dream, he is approached by a mysterious young ghost named 'V'. He’s unsure of her connection to the murder in the town, but is grateful for the story being handed to him. Ultimately he is led to the truth of the story, surprised to find that the ending has more to do with his own life than he could ever have anticipated..."

Coppola will debut footage from the new film @ the San Diego Comic-Con July 23, 2011, that will include a 3D 'dream sequence'.

"Rod Serling" Bio-Pic: A Dimension Not Only Of Sight And Sound But Of Mind

According to reports, screenwriter Stanley Weiser ("Wall Street") will draft a feature film bio-pic on Rod Serling ("The Twilight Zone"), for Bureau of Moving Pictures.

Rodman "Rod" Edward Serling, the late screenwriter, novelist, television producer, and narrator was best known for his live television dramas of the 1950's and his sci fi anthology TV series, "The Twilight Zone".

Serling was also active in politics, both on and off the screen and helped form television industry standards, gaining a rep as an 'angry young man' of Hollywood, clashing with television executives and sponsors over a wide range of issues including censorship, racism and anti-war politics.

During WW II, Serling enlisted in the US Army the morning after his high school graduation, stationed at Camp Toccoa, while serving in the 511th Parachute Infantry Regiment of the 11th Airborne Division. Becoming a 'flyweight' boxer, he was remembered for his 'berserker' fighting style, before being shipped out to the Philippines to fight the Japanese. It was these wartime combat experiences that left Serling with nightmares and flashbacks which would plague him for the rest of his life.

He began his writing career in radio, then worked at WKRC-TV in Cincinnati as a commercial writer, before selling scripts to the live dramatic anthology shows prevalent at the time including "Kraft Television Theater", where his episode "Patterns" became a critical hit, leading to permanent job offers. In 1956, he wrote the award-winning "Requiem for a Heavyweight" for "Playhouse 90".

Weary of seeing his carefully nurtured scripts dumbed down, with the removal of political statements and ethnic identities, Serling decided the only way to avoid artistic interference was to create his own show, with CBS greenlighting Serling's Desilu pilot for "The Twilight Zone" (1959). After five years, numerous Emmy Awards and 156 episodes (ninety-two of them written by Serling), he sold all rights to "The Twilight Zone" to CBS.

Serling continued writing screenplays including "Seven Days In May" (1964) and co-writing the screenplay for "The Planet Of The Apes" (1968), adapting the 1963 novel by French author Pierre Boulle. He also created the NBC horror anthology TV series "Night Gallery" (1970).

According to Serling's widow, he often said that "the ultimate obscenity is not caring, not doing something about what you feel..."

Sneak Peek "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy"

Sneak Peek the new international teaser trailer supporting director Tomas Alfredson's upcoming feature "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy", starring Gary Oldman, Ciaran Hinds, Jared Harris, Colin Firth, Tom Hardy, Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Strong and Svetlana Khodchenko.

'Control', the 'Circus Chief', assigns the code names 'Tinker', 'Tailor', 'Soldier', 'Poorman' and 'Beggarman' to various senior intelligence officers under suspicion of being Soviet moles, derived from the English children's rhyme "Tinker, Tailor".

The new film will open October 18, 2011.

"The Death Of Andy Kaufman" - July 26, 2011

The new documentary "The Death of Andy Kaufman", from film-maker Christopher Maloney, regarded as "...a 'lo-fi' whodunit that would make Woodward and Bernstein doff their hats..." will be available on DVD July 26, 2011 :

"...'The Death of Andy Kaufman' takes on the many mysteries and theories surrounding Andy Kaufman's death, and through exclusive interviews with family and friends, rare performances by Kaufman, and the filmmakers own personal investigation, we are brought closer to understanding the mind and myth of one of the most celebrated and mysterious performance artists of all time, often with unexpected results..."

The entertainer, actor and performance artist, while often referred to as a 'comedian', did not consider himself one, as he disliked telling 'jokes', referring to himself instead as a 'song-and-dance man', with elaborate hoaxes and pranks as major elements of his career.

Kaufman allegedly told many people, that he wished to fake his own death, causing some fans to believe he is still alive. Kaufman himself purportedly claimed that if he were to fake his death, he would return 20 years later, with the
1999 bio-pic feature, "Man on the Moon", leaving that question open-ended.

Lensed 'documentary style', the new sci fi film "...unearths lost footage from Apollo 18’s undocumented and covert mission to the moon, revealing disturbing new evidence of other life forms..."

The actual US 'Apollo 18' moon mission was originally planned July 1969 to land in the moon's 'Schroter's Valley', but NASA 'cancelled' the mission over what they said were 'congressional cuts' as opposed to 'alien interference'.

"The Wolverine": Welcome To Japan Mr. Logan

Actor Hugh Jackman has confirmed that the next "Wolverine" feature film from 20th Century Fox, will start October 2011, based on the Marvel Comics character, that will not be a sequel to director Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", but a stand-alone feature.

Sneak Peek first reported October 2010, that the screenplay written by Christopher McQuarrie is based on writer Chris Claremont and artist Frank Miller's Marvel Comics "Wolverine" solo, 4-part 1982 limited series.

In that comic book series, 'Logan', aka 'Wolverine', the Canadian mutant with 'adamantium' retractable claws, is a 'ronin', or masterless, failed samurai who hides a deep-seated code of honor underneath his rage.

Logan travels to Japan to confront the woman he loves and the man that would keep them apart.

Claremont introduced the villain 'Shingen Yashida', a crime lord that is Wolverine's physical better. When his foe is eventually defeated, Logan prepares to settle down into wedded bliss with 'Lady Mariko', but the presence of new villains threatens to derail the peace, leading to a climactic battle between Wolverine and the 'Silver Samurai'.

Also included in the stories are "X-Men" mutants 'Rogue', 'Cyclops', 'Storm', 'Kitty Pryde' and 'Nightcrawler'.

Jackman can be seen in a foul-talking, booze swilling, cigar chomping 'Wolverine' cameo in the current release "X-Men: First Class".
