The thriller is based on author John le Carré's 1974 British spy novel featuring the character 'George Smiley', a middle-aged, intelligence expert in 'forced retirement', suddenly recalled to hunt down a Soviet 'mole' in the 'Circus', the highest echelon of the 'Secret Intelligence Service'.
'Control', the 'Circus Chief', assigns the code names 'Tinker', 'Tailor', 'Soldier', 'Poorman' and 'Beggarman' to various senior intelligence officers under suspicion of being Soviet moles, derived from the English children's rhyme "Tinker, Tailor".
The new film will open October 18, 2011.
