The new documentary "The Death of Andy Kaufman", from film-maker Christopher Maloney, regarded as "...a 'lo-fi' whodunit that would make Woodward and Bernstein doff their hats..." will be available on DVD July 26, 2011:
"...'The Death of Andy Kaufman' takes on the many mysteries and theories surrounding Andy Kaufman's death, and through exclusive interviews with family and friends, rare performances by Kaufman, and the filmmakers own personal investigation, we are brought closer to understanding the mind and myth of one of the most celebrated and mysterious performance artists of all time, often with unexpected results..."
The entertainer, actor and performance artist, while often referred to as a 'comedian', did not consider himself one, as he disliked telling 'jokes', referring to himself instead as a 'song-and-dance man', with elaborate hoaxes and pranks as major elements of his career.
Kaufman allegedly told many people, that he wished to fake his own death, causing some fans to believe he is still alive. Kaufman himself purportedly claimed that if he were to fake his death, he would return 20 years later, with the 1999 bio-pic feature, "Man on the Moon", leaving that question open-ended.
