"The Wolfman" Cursed With An 'R' Rating

Universal has announced that "The Wolfman", the 2010 remake of the 1941 classic horror film, will be rated 'R' for "bloody horror, violence and gore."

The film is directed by Joe Johnston starring Benicio del Toro, Anthony Hopkins, Emily Blunt, Hugo Weaving and Art Malik, slated for release February 12, 2010.

Set in the late 1880s, the film keeps the plotline of the original, with 'Lawrence Talbot' (del Toro) reuniting with his estranged father (Hopkins) following the disappearance of his brother.

"...Lawrence Talbot's childhood ended the night his mother died. After he left the Victorian hamlet of Blackmoore, he spent decades recovering and trying to forget.

When his brother's fiancée, 'Gwen Conliffe' (Blunt), tracks him down to help find her missing lover, Talbot returns home to join the search.

"He learns that something with brute strength and insatiable blood lust has been killing the villagers, and that a suspicious Scotland Yard inspector named 'Aberline' (Weaving) has come to investigate.

"As he pieces together the puzzle, he hears of an ancient curse that turns the afflicted into werewolves when the moon is full.

"If he has any chance at ending the slaughter and protecting the woman he has grown to love, Talbot must destroy the creature in the woods surrounding Blackmoore. But as he hunts for the beast, the simple man with the tortured past uncovers a primal side to himself, one he never imagined existed... "

Sneak Peek "Alice In Wonderland"

Sneak Peek detailed 7" inch action figures of actress Mia Wasikowska as 'Alice Kingsley' and Johnny Depp as 'The Mad Hatter', from toy manufacturer Medicom, ready for release July 2010, in suppport of director Tim Burton's upcoming "Alice In Wonderland" feature.

Disney Interactive Studios will also spin-off a video game based on the film in early 2010 for the Wii, Nintendo DS and Windows PC.

Although a number of well-known actresses expressed strong interest in the role of 'Alice', director Burton chose Wasikowska, a relative unknown.

"We wanted somebody who had a 'gravity' to her, an internal life," said Burton.
"That’s why I picked her."

To be released in Disney Digital 3-D and IMAX 3-D, the feature adapts author Lewis Carroll's classic novels "Alice's Adventures in Wonderland" and "Through the Looking-Glass", combining live-action with motion-capture technology.

On prior "Alice In Wonderland" films, Burton said "It was always a girl wandering around from one crazy character to another and I never really felt any real emotional connection."

Burton's goal for the new film was to give the story "some framework of emotional grounding" and "to try and make Alice feel more like a story as opposed to a series of events."

Screenwriter Linda Woolverton also added a 'socio-political' context to the updated story to make it more of an engaging movie, with Sony Pictures Imageworks designing the VFX sequences.

"Alice In Wonderland" also stars Helena Bonham Carter as 'The Red Queen', Anne Hathaway as 'The White Queen' and Crispin Glover as 'The Knave of Hearts'.

The film will be released March 5, 2010.

Bettany and Connelly Monkey Around With "Creation"...

"Creation" is the controversial new film focusing on scientist Charles Darwin's relationship with his eldest daughter 'Annie', as the author struggled to document his radical theories in the book "On the Origin of Species", published in 1859.

Considered the foundation of evolutionary biology, the book introduces the theory that populations evolve over the course of generations through a process of 'natural selection' and that the diversity of life arose by common descent through a branching pattern of evolution. Darwin backed up his theories with evidence gathered on his 'Beagle' sea voyage expedition during the 1830's and subsequent findings from research, correspondence and experimentation.

Produced by Jeremy "Tideland" Thomas, "Creation" was directed by Jon "The Core" Amiel, starring husband and wife team, Paul Bettany and Jennifer Connelly as 'Charles' and 'Emma Darwin'.

Screenplay is by John Collee, adapting author Randal Keynes's Darwin biography "Annie's Box".

The film premiered in September at the Toronto International Film Festival.

According to Thomas, the US was one of the last countries to find a distributor for the film due to ongoing 'creation vs. evolution' debates among religious groups, until
Newmarket Films ("The Passion Of Christ"), agreed to distribute the Icon film with plans for a release this month.

In Canada, D Films will release the film in Montreal, Toronto and Vancouver, January 22, 2010.

'The Vulture' Hovers Over "Spider-Man 4"

Thanks to the new-found popularity of the 'Volturi' in "The Twilight Saga" movies, reports have actor John Malkovich circling the role of 'Spider-Man' comic book villain 'The Vulture' for Sony/Columbia's upcoming "Spider-Man 4", set to start lensing Spring 2010 in New York.

Created by writer Stan Lee and illustrator Steve Ditko, debuting in Marvel Comics' "The Amazing Spider-Man #2 (May 1963), the Vulture aka 'Adrian Toomes' was a former electronics engineer and business partner of 'Gregory Bestman'. After creating a flight harness that also provided 'super-strength', Toomes rushed into Bestman's office to share the news, but discovered his partner had absconded with all of the company's funds.

Looking for revenge, a bitter Toomes modifies his flight harness wings to be razor sharp and customized for projectile weaponry.

The Vulture first encountered Spider-Man during a jewelry heist, eventually joining the 'Sinister Six' criminal alliance led by 'Doctor Octopus' and becoming a close ally of fellow costumed villain 'Electro'.

Jenny Agutter: "Walkabout"...

"Walkabout" is director Nicolas Roeg's 1971 British feature set in Australia, adapting the novel by author James Vance Marshall, available in an unedited director's cut through the Criterion Collection.

The story starts with a high school girl (Jenny Agutter), her younger brother (Luc Roeg) and their father, a geologist, going for a drive into the Australian outback, where they stop for a family picnic.

Suddenly, without warning or reason, the father begins shooting at them and when they run behind rocks for cover, he sets the car on fire and kills himself.

The girl conceals what has happened from her brother as they spend a night sleeping on rocks, climbing high into the mountains for a vantage point to see the ocean. As they begin their trek towards the sea, they grow weak from exposure, until an Aboriginal boy (David Gulpilil) appears and saves their lives by taking them through the frontier.

The film was produced from a minimal 14-page screenplay by English playwright Edward Bond, with Roeg, a British filmmaker, bringing an outsider's interpretation to the Australian setting."

We didn’t really plan anything, " said Roeg. "We just came across things by chance…filming whatever we found."

"The adventure I had been a part of was woven into the fabric of the film, " said Agutter.

"We would walk for half a day up a mountain to capture the grandeur of the place, or sleep in a dry riverbed to rise early and catch that particular morning light. Each location distilled the essence of a scene, like the illustrations in a wonderful children’s book.

"My memories of making 'Walkabout' are linked with the journey of 'the girl', who like myself was at that perplexing age between adolescence and adulthood."
