'The Vulture' Hovers Over "Spider-Man 4"

Thanks to the new-found popularity of the 'Volturi' in "The Twilight Saga" movies, reports have actor John Malkovich circling the role of 'Spider-Man' comic book villain 'The Vulture' for Sony/Columbia's upcoming "Spider-Man 4", set to start lensing Spring 2010 in New York.

Created by writer Stan Lee and illustrator Steve Ditko, debuting in Marvel Comics' "The Amazing Spider-Man #2 (May 1963), the Vulture aka 'Adrian Toomes' was a former electronics engineer and business partner of 'Gregory Bestman'. After creating a flight harness that also provided 'super-strength', Toomes rushed into Bestman's office to share the news, but discovered his partner had absconded with all of the company's funds.

Looking for revenge, a bitter Toomes modifies his flight harness wings to be razor sharp and customized for projectile weaponry.

The Vulture first encountered Spider-Man during a jewelry heist, eventually joining the 'Sinister Six' criminal alliance led by 'Doctor Octopus' and becoming a close ally of fellow costumed villain 'Electro'.
