Ritchie Clues Into "Sherlock Holmes"...

Guy "Snatch" Ritchie will direct "Sherlock Holmes" for Warner Bros.

The movie will be based not on author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's public domain novels, but on Lionel Wigram's upcoming comic book.

Ritchie is currently rewriting a script, submitted by Tony Peckham.

The movie is being slated for a 2010 release.

The Sci Fi Channel has also developed a new take on the super-sleuth with the TV movie "Sherlock Holmes and the Curse of the Banshee".


Warners is determined to setting up a film franchise with "Sherlock Holmes", having previously published a "Sherlock Holmes" comic book in the 1960's through their DC Comics.

Wigram, a former Warners creative exec who oversaw the first three "Harry Potter" features, intends to play up parts of the detective's character including his skills as a bare-knuckle boxer and expert swordsman.

More than 75 actors have played the public domain London detective in 200 films and TV shows since 1900...
