Sony Rolls Out "2012" Roadblock- October 1...
Sony is prepping the largest marketing 'roadblock' ever to promote the Vancouver-lensed feature "2012" (working title "Farewell Atlantis"), directed by Roland Emmerich.
A 2-minute sequence from the disaster movie will air simultaneously on 450 TV outlets in North America, Oct. 1.
Comcast will launch a multimillion-dollar campaign, airing on ABC, NBC and CBS, 89 cable networks, local stations in the top 70 markets and Spanish-language networks.
In Canada, Sony Pictures will run the two minute cliffhanger on all major English and French broadcast networks, 53 cable networks, and local stations in 20 markets. In total 146 television outlets will take part in the Canadian event, reaching over 6.7 million viewers across the country, a delivery that exceeds The Academy Awards, Canada’s highest rated annual programming event.
The two minute scene will reach more than 96% of Canadians watching Canadian TV at that time. Sympatico.ca will also partner in Canada to showcase the conclusion of the two minute cliffhanger with the extended five minute sequence, reaching over 82% of Canada’s total English and French online population.
Fans will be able to view an extended five-minute scene, after the roadblock on Fancast.
Cast of "2012" includes actors John "The Grifters" Cusack, Amanda Peet, Thandie Newton, Oliver Platt, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Woody "Cheers" Harrelson.
In the film a global 'cataclysm' occurs leading to the end of the world, with survivors struggling for their lives.
The film is inspired by the ancient Mayan culture that predicted a doomsday event will occur sometime in the year 2012, during the northern hemisphere's winter solstice.
"2012" will be released November 13, 2009.

Sony Gets Pumped Up For "He-Man"...
Sony will produce a feature adaptation of Mattel's "He-Man" action figure line, based on the Filmation Studios cartoon hero, with Escape Artists' Todd Black, Jason Blumenthal and Steve Tisch developing the property for Columbia Pictures.
The original Filmation Studios animated "He-Man: Masters Of The Universe" series, inspired by author Robert E. Howard's "Conan The Barbarian", aired 130 syndicated episodes in 1983, featuring muscle-bound 'He-Man' defending 'Eternia' and the secrets of 'Castle Grayskull' from the evil forces of 'Skeletor'.
The series was followed in 1990 by "The New Adventures of He-Man".
The first series was set during the aftermath of a 'Great War', when the 'Sorceress of Castle Grayskull', aka 'The Goddess', gave 'Prince Adam', son of planet Eternia's 'King Randor' and the earthling 'Queen Marlena', his super powers.Adam would hold aloft the 'Sword of Power', proclaiming, "By the power of Grayskull...I have the power!"
Adam's physique would then ripple with muscles and his green tiger 'Cringer' would change into the armored 'Battle Cat'.He-Man's love interest was 'Teela', female 'Captain of the Royal Guard', adoptive daughter of mentor 'Duncan', aka 'Man-At-Arms' and the only daughter of 'The Sorceress'.
He-Man's chief adversary Skeletor, a blue-skinned sorcerer with a cowled skull for a head, was skilled in black magic, wielding a 'Havoc Staff' ram's skull atop a rod for channeling magic.
Skeletor's reptilian base of operations was 'Snake Mountain', a fortress made of black basalt located on the 'Dark Hemisphere' of Eternia. His motley crew of henchmen included witch 'Evil-Lyn', 'Beast Man', bionic 'Trap-Jaw', multi-sighted 'Tri-Klops' and the 'fish lord' known as 'Mer-Man'.
In 1987 a live-action "Masters of the Universe" feature was produced starring actor Dolph "The Punisher" Lundgren as Prince Adam...
Face Front For "The Merry Marvel Marching Society"...
In the wake of Disney's pending $4 billion purchase of Marvel Entertainment, there is a flurry of development activity for Marvel Comics, character-based movies, currently under contract with various studios.
According to reports, Columbia Pictures is developing a big screen sequel to Marvel Comics' "Ghost Rider", with David "Blade" Goyer in negotiations to create a new story for actor Nicolas "Face/Off" Cage, expected to reprise his role as 'Johnny Blaze'. The new film will be produced by Avi "Man-Thing" Arad, Michael De Luca and Steven Paul. Gary Foster will executive produce.
Film adaptations of Marvel characters at Sony, Fox, Universal and Paramount are also in fast-track development, before those screen rights revert back to Marvel Entertainment, for 'inactivity', as was the case with Marvel titles "Doctor Strange" and "Black Panther".
Fox is preparing to 'reboot' "Fantastic Four" based on a new screenplay by writer Michael "Green Lantern" Green, for producer Akiva "The Da Vinci Code" Goldsman.
Development also continues on several Fox "X-Men" spin-offs, including a "Wolverine" sequel, "X-Men Origins: Magneto" and "X-Men: First Class".
Also in development is a reboot of "Daredevil" and a stand-alone "Silver Surfer" film.
Sony continues developing a fifth and sixth installment of "Spider-Man", Paramount will continue to distribute "Iron Man 2", "Thor" and "Captain America: The First Avenger" and Universal continues development of "Sub-Mariner"...
