"Gainsbourg": The Ultimate Love Song

Sneak Peek the new quad poster supporting the feature "Gainsbourg", directed by Joann Sfar, following the life of the French singer/songwriter/film director 'Serge Gainsbourg' (Eric Elmosnino), from his childhood in occupied France, to his rise as an international pop star.

His varied style and individuality made Gainsbourg's songs difficult to categorize, although he is often regarded as one of the world's most influential popular musicians.

In 1969, he released the song "Je t'aime... moi non plus", featuring explicit lyrics and simulated sounds of a female orgasm.

The song also appeared on the LP "Jane Birkin/Serge Gainsbourg".

Originally recorded with actress Brigitte Bardot, the recording was released with future girlfriend Birkin when Bardot backed out.

While Gainsbourg declared the composition the "ultimate love song," "Je T'aime was censored in various countries, with the Vatican declaring in a public statement at the time, that the song was 'offensive'.

However, despite all the controversy, the song charted within the top ten in many European countries, with Gainsbourg writing soundtracks for more than 40 films as well as directing the films "Je t'aime... moi non plus", "Équateur" and "Charlotte For Ever".

Universal's "King Kong 360 3D"

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors recently sent a letter to Tribune Company Chairman Sam Zell regarding a 'spoof news' section, in the Tribune-owned LA Times newspaper, showing the destruction of Universal Studios Hollywood.

The newspaper headline reads, "Universal Studios Hollywood Partially Destroyed -- Theme Park Suffers Massive Damage, but Vows to Remain Open."

The article reads, "...It is hard to distinguish between the real debris and the foam prop rubble that commonly covers Hollywood backlots. 'Abner Devereaux', head groundskeeper for the Universal backlot, even had trouble sorting truth from fiction..."

"Today's 'mock' section front makes a mockery of the paper's mission," the county supervisors said in their letter to the LA Times .

"We urge the Times to stop selling its front pages to advertisers, especially in such an offensive and alarming manner."

But according to the Times, the ad "met our advertising guidelines. ... Our readers understand the ad-supported economic model of our business, which allows us to provide the outstanding journalism they rely upon 24/7..."
