Marvel Studios "Eternals"

The Marvel Comics' title "Eternals" #1, in support of the upcoming "Eternals" feature film starring Angelina Jolie, is written by Kieron Gillen and illustrated by Esad Ribic, with variant covers by Alex Ross, Walt Simonson and a whole lot more, available November 2020:

"...just what is the point of an eternal battle? For millions of years, one hundred 'Eternals' have roamed the Earth, as the secret protectors of humanity. Without them, we would be destroyed by the 'Deviants'. Their war has waged for all time, echoing in our myths and nightmares.

But today, Eternals face something new. Can they, or anyone on Earth survive their discovery?..."

"Marvel Studios' 'The Eternals' introduces an exciting new team of superheroes in the 'Marvel Cinematic Universe': ancient aliens who have been living on Earth in secret for thousands of years.

"Following the events of 'Avengers: Endgame', an unexpected tragedy forces them out of the shadows to reunite against mankind's most ancient enemy, 'The Deviants'.

"The outstanding ensemble cast includes Richard Madden as the all-powerful 'Ikaris'...

"...Gemma Chan as humankind-loving 'Sersi', Kumail Nanjiani as the cosmic-powered 'Kingo,' Lauren Ridloff as the super-fast 'Makkari'...

...Brian Tyree Henry as the intelligent inventor 'Phastos', Salma Hayak as the wise and spiritual leader 'Ajak', Lia McHugh as 'Sprite', Don Lee as the powerful 'Gilgamesh' and Barry Keoghan as 'Druig'..."

Written and illustrated by "Captain America" co-creator Jack 'King' Kirby in 1976, Marvel Comics' 19-issue "The Eternals" series...

...focused on an offshoot of the evolutionary process responsible for sentient life on Earth.

"...we like the idea of introducing an 'ensemble', doing an ensemble movie from the start...

"...as opposed to building up as we did with the first 'Avengers'", said Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige about the new film.

"The film is More like 'Guardians', not tonally, but in terms of introducing a new group of people.

"Jack Kirby did an immense, amazing epic with 'The Eternals' that spans tens of thousands of years and that's also something we haven’t really done...

"...which is why that among many other things post-'Endgame', we find appealing."
