"Metal Men" - What Price Humanity ?

Following the success of Marvel's 'Iron Man' (Robert Downey Jr.) appearing in 10 blockbuster films since 2008, development continues on a live-action take of DC Comics "Metal Men", supported by a new 12-issue series, now available, written by Dan DiDio and illustrated by Shane Davis, Michelle Delecki, with covers by Davis and Philip Tan:

"...in the new series, the 'Metal Men' discover a warehouse of old robots, older versions of themselves, that are junked and apparently left in disrepair by their creator rather than being rebuilt after their heroic battles.

"Meanwhile, a mysterious liquid 'Nth' metal has appeared in the science site at 'Challenger Mountain'…the same Challenger Mountain that came through from the 'Dark Multiverse' and landed in 'Gotham'.."

"I'm a longtime fan of the 'Metal Men'", said Didio, "With this new series, we explore the essence of what makes the 'Metal Men' human...

"... by having them caught between 'Doc Magnus', the man who created them...

"...and, the newly introduced, The 'Nth Metal Man', the being that gave them life..."

"Metal Men" debuted in DC Comics' "Showcase" #37, created by writer Robert Kanigher and illustrator Ross Andru, introduced as advanced artificially intelligent robots, created by scientist 'Dr. William "Will" Magnus'.

The six robots were field leader 'Gold', strong man 'Iron', slow-witted and loyal 'Lead', hot-headed 'Mercury', self-doubting and insecure 'Tin' and 'Platinum'...

...aka 'Tina' who believed she was a real woman and in love with her creator.

Each 'Metal Man' reflects the traits of their namesake metal: Gold could stretch his form almost infinitely, Iron was super strong, Lead could block harmful radiation by morphing into thick shields, Mercury could melt and pass through small spaces before reforming and Tina...

...could stretch, flatten or spin into long filaments.
