Bad To The "Bone"

Netflix has acquired animation rights to creator Jeff Smith's 1991 award-winning 55-issue comic book series "Bone":

"... 'Bone' follows the 'Bone' cousins, greedy 'Phoney Bone', cigar-smoking 'Smiley Bone' and everyman character 'Fone Bone', have been run out of their hometown of 'Boneville' after Phoney's campaign for mayor went awry.

"After crossing a desert, the cousins are separated by a sea of locusts...

"...and end up in the mysterious 'Valley', pursued by rat creatures.

"The cousins reunite at local tavern 'Barrelhaven', where they are taken in by the mysterious girl 'Thorn' and her even more enigmatic grandmother.

"Fone Bone instantly develops a crush on Thorn when he meets her, and repeatedly attempts to express his love through poetry. As they stay longer in the Valley, they encounter humans and other creatures who are threatened by dark entity, the 'Lord of the Locusts'.

"The Bones, trying to escape to Boneville, are quickly drawn into the events around them, compelling them on a hero's journey to help free the Valley..."

"I've waited a long time for this," said Smith. "Netflix is the perfect home for 'Bone'. Fans of the books know that the story develops chapter by chapter and book by book.

"An animated series is exactly the way to do this! The team at Netflix understands 'Bone' and is committed to doing something special - this is good news for kids and cartoon lovers all over the world..."
