"Gotham": Under The 'Red Hood'

Sneak Peek the comic book origins of DC Comics' character the 'Red Hood', on the news that "Gotham" creator Bruno Heller will include the character in the critically-acclaimed 'Batman' prequel TV series:

"There's going to be an episode that involves the 'Red Hood'," said Heller, "which picks up that strand...the 'costume strand'..."

The 'Red Hood' debuted in "Detective Comics" #168, when a criminal going by that alias, claiming to be a lab worker, intended to rob a chemical plant of $1,000,000 and retire. But he and his men were dispatched, then suddenly cornered on a catwalk by 'Batman'.

Left with no alternative, Red Hood dives into a catch basin for the chemicals and swims to freedom, surviving because of a special breathing apparatus built into the helmet. But the toxins in the vat permanently disfigured him, turning his hair green, his skin white and his lips red. Changing his primary alias to 'The Joker' he became Batman's greatest foe and one of the biggest threats to 'Gotham'.

In another 'Red Hood' incarnation, 'Jason Todd' the second 'Robin' after 'Dick Grayson' was killed by the Joker, mysteriously returns to Gotham alive, but rather than fighting crime the way he did at Batman's side, Jason instead takes control of the organized crime in Gotham, using the Joker's former identity, The Red Hood. His attempts to defeat crime by taking control of it make him an anti-hero.
