Characters showcased include shape-shifter 'Mystique', a 'Sentinel' robot, Sentinel creator 'Bolivar Trask', military man 'William Stryker', plus mutants 'Havoc', 'Toad', 'Beast', 'Quicksilver' and 'Blink':
The new film is based on the 1981 comic book storyline 'Days of Future Past', published in Marvel's "Uncanny X-Men" #141 and #142 by writer Chris Claremont and illustrator John Byrne.
Premise introduced the idea of an alternate future for Marvel's mutants.
