"Breaking Bad" creator Vince Gilligan recently gave an update on his "BB" spin-off "Better Call Saul", starring Bob Odenkirk, and characters from "Breaking Bad" that will appear in the prequel, including one "Breaking Bad" character in particular:
As for the development of the 'Saul Goodman' character, "Nothing is written in stone yet," said Gilligan. "We’re still figuring it out, but the thing we realize is tricky with the character is that 'Saul Goodman' is very comfortable in his own skin. He seems to be a character who is pretty happy with himself, especially when we first meet him.
"He seems to be a pretty happy-go-lucky guy, and that makes him everything that 'Walter White' is not. And that also makes for tricky drama. When I say drama, even in a comedy, you want drama, you want tension and conflict, and a character that at heart seems at peace with himself is intrinsically undramatic...So we’ve been thinking about how to address that issue."
"Better Call Saul" will tell the story of mall-based Irish super lawyer 'Saul Goodman' in the years before he became the attorney for 'Walter White'. From parking tickets to murder, from slip-and-fall to bond fraud, Saul handles it all.
"Why not shoot 'Saul' in the same way?'" said creator Gilligan. "Let’s shoot it in Albuquerque, let’s get as much of the crew back together as possible, and let’s do it the way we did it before so that it will be of a piece with that pre-existing fictional universe that we had so much fun creating..."
