According to "Star Wars" creator George Lucas, aging actors Mark Hamill as 'Luke Skywalker', Carrie Fisher as 'Princess Leia Organa' and Harrison Ford as 'Han Solo' were already in negotiations to appear in "Star Wars: Episode VII" before Disney's acquisition of Lucasfilm was finalized:
"We had already signed Mark and Carrie and Harrison," said Lucas, "or we were pretty much in final stages of negotiation.
"So I called them to say, 'Look, this is what's going on."
"Maybe I'm not supposed to say that. I think they (Disney) want to announce that with some big whoop-de-do, but we were negotiating with them."
