Mattel Toys With "Monster High"

The newest dolls in manufacturer Mattel's macabre "Monster High" toy line, targeting 'tween' and teen girls specifically, has become scarce this holiday season, driving up prices from suggested retails of $16.99 to over $40 on eBay and Amazon.

"Monster High", the first original franchise for Mattel since "Hot Wheels" in 1968, is a line of teen dolls packaged as the children of famous public domain monsters like 'Dracula' and 'Frankenstein', with names like
'Draculaura' and 'Frankie Stein'.

The brand, introduced July 2010, includes merchandise and entertainment ranging from "Monster High"-branded clothing, cosmetics, jewelry, and dolls, a music video and online webisode series, a dedicated YouTube channel, a "Monster High" book for teens written by author Lisi Harrison and a TV special on Nickelodeon.

Also in development for 2012 is a full-length live-action musical movie to be produced by the same team behind Oscar-winning "Chicago."
