In the wake of writer/director J.J. Abram's new "Star Trek" feature, focusing on young 'Capt. Kirk' and 'Mr. Spock', writer Josh "Gossip Girl" Schwartz is being tapped by 20th Century Fox to script an "X-Men: First Class" movie, focusing on the early years of the 'X-Men' superhero team and the Academy where 'Professor Xavier' helps other mutants come to grips with their powers.
Schwartz could possibly direct the film for Lauren Shuler Donner, producer of all three Canadian-lensed "X-Men" films and the Australian-shot "X-Men Origins: Wolverine", starring actor Hugh Jackman.
Aside from being series creator/executive producer of the CW's "Gossip Girl" and NBC's "Chuck", Schwartz also created "The O.C.".
Schwartz will make his directing debut for Paramount with "Famous Last Words", another 'coming-of-age' story he is adapting from author John Green's 2003 novel "Looking for Alaska"...
