"Flash Gordon" In Canada ...
At the Television Critics Association tour in LA Feb 12, it was announced that the Sci Fi Channel has greenlit production on "Flash Gordon", a 22 one-hour episodic series starting production in BC early this year. A July 2007 launch has been targeted with a broadcast syndication window to follow. Under an agreement with rights holder King Features Syndicate, the new series is being produced by RHI's Robert Halmi, Sr. and Robert Halmi, Jr., who previously produced Sci Fi's mini-series "Legend of Earthsea". Creator Alex Raymond's original 1934 comic strip characters, 'Flash Gordon', 'Ming the Merciless, 'Dale Arden' and 'Dr. Hans Zarkov' will all appear in the cast.
Meanwhile, director Stephen "The Mummy" Sommers continues development of his "Flash Gordon" feature film project.

Evil Dead: The Musical
New York City is embracing musical/dramatic stage shows inspired by popular movies, including Matthew Bourne's upcoming "Edward Scissorhands", based on director Tim Burton's film, running March 14-31, at the Brooklyn Academy Of Music.
Other movie-based productions currently performing or about to hold previews in New York City include "Talk Radio", directed by Robert Falls, for 12 weeks at the Longacre Theatre...

"Sopranos: Road To Respect"
According to reports, HBO will bring "The Sopranos" back April 8, returning for its sixth season with one more episode than expected.
Creator David Chase produced nine episodes, rather than the eight that had been ordered.

Actors Aishwarya Rai and Abhishek Bachchan attended the world premiere of the 'Bollywood' feature "Guru", January 11 at Toronto's Elgin & Winter Garden Theatre. Close to 1200 ticket holders, paying between $100-$500 a seat, crowded Yonge Street for the red carpet gala, shrieking at the sight of former Miss World Rai.

Organizers billed Thursday evening's premiere as the first time a Bollywood film has ever debuted outside of India."The Indian film industry, as you know, is the largest film industry in the world. We want to reach out to audiences overseas," Bachchan said.
Premise of "Guru" focuses on the life of a poor villager who rises to become one of the most successful business figures in the country.
Bachchan plays rags-to-riches industrialist 'Gurukant Desai' with Rai as his wife 'Sujatha'.
Directed by Mani Ratnam, "Guru" opened worldwide January 12.
Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty is currently leading a trade mission to India and Pakistan, with an eye towards luring key Bollywood players to set up shop in Toronto.
