According to actor Hugh Jackman, progress is being on the big screen "WOLVERINE" feature film, a spin-off from the "X-men" movies, for Jackman's Seed Productions.
Writer David "Troy" Benioff (Troy) is currently on his second draft of the screenplay.
''Wolverine substantiates a feature film," Jackman said to Entertainment Weekly.
"He's a really intriguing, mysterious, enigmatic character, à la 'Mad Max', 'Dirty Harry', 'Han Solo' - he's that kind of screen antihero.
"I'd love to get into the origins of that character and find out what he's really made of. So that was always my idea.... Benioff came in with a pitch that was so brilliant, I was so excited, I actually tried to get Fox to make it. But they said, 'No, no, no, we have a ("X-Men"} trilogy, let's finish that.

A tenative start date was originally scheduled for later this month.
Advance publishing rights to Swanson's novel were purchased for more than $500,000, considered a large sum for a debut work of non-fiction.
Walden Media, noted for "Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" will produce.
Ford will play 'Boston Corbett', the killer of 'John Wilkes Booth', the assassin of US President Lincoln.
The "Manhunt" book debuted at No. 6 on The New York Times best-seller list, holding steady at No. 5, with a fifth printing of 200,000 copies currently in circulation.
"I wrote the book for myself," said Swanson, "so I am thrilled that people are responding."
Swanson's home is jammed with Lincoln memorabilia, including bronze busts of Lincoln dotting mantels and tabletops on the first floor, 'mourning' posters, various depictions of the assassination, a swatch from the bloodstained dress of 'Laura Keene' (the actress who cradled the dying Lincoln's head in her lap) and a lock of Lincoln's hair clipped at the time by Edwin M. Stanton, the US secretary of war.
Swanson also owns four of the original known 'wanted' posters offering $100,000 rewards for the capture of Booth and his co-conspirators.
Alberta Shoot For Hellman's "Desperadoes" ...
SNEAK PEEK: DESPERADOESDirector Monte "Two-Lane Blacktop" Hellman will helm "Desperadoes" based on author Ron Hansen's novel about the infamous 'Dalton' gang of train robbers.
Joyce Wethington is producing, with Paul Thomas Anderson and Martin Scorsese executive producers. Hansen also wrote "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford". Writer Charles Eastman will script "Desperadoes" focusing on 'Bob Dalton' and his lover 'Eugenia Moore'.
Filming will begin this fall in Alberta.
The real Dalton brothers were raised on the border of 'Indian Territory', after the US Civil War, near Coffeyville, Kansas. Older brother Frank Dalton, was commissioned a Deputy Marshal for the Fort Smith federal court. He was killed Nov. 27, 1887 in a shoot-out with the Smith-Dixon Gang. In 1889, Grat Dalton worked as a deputy and was wounded while attempting to arrest a suspect. Bob Dalton was a deputy marshal for the federal court in Wichita, Kansas, working out of the 'Osage Nation'. Emmett Dalton worked at the Bar X Bar Ranch near the Pawnee Agency, befriending two of the Gang's future members, Bill Doolin and William St. Power.
While serving as head of the Osage police, Bob Dalton was accused of selling bad whiskey. Grat Dalton also was dismissed as a deputy for conduct unbecoming an officer. Then, in July 1890, Bob, Grat, and Emmett were accused of stealing and selling horses. With a posse on their trail, Bob and Emmett left the territories for California. Brother Grat was arrested, placed in jail and later released for lack of evidence.
February 6th, 1891 the Southern Pacific RR train was robbed at Alila, CA. Grat and Bill were arrested while Bob and Emmett made their way back to the territories. May 1891, hiding out in the Indian Nations, the boys hooked up with Emmett's ranching buddies Charlie Bryant and Bitter Creek Newcomb, robbing the train at Wharton, O.T. for $1745.
After the Wharton robbery, Bryant became ill and was taken to a doctor in Hennessey, O.T.. Deputy Marshal Ed Short recognized Bryant and arrested him at a hotel while he was recovering. As there was no jail in Hennessey, Short escorted his prisoner by train to the federal jail in Wichita. During the trip Bryant secured a pistol and in a blazing gun fight both men were killed.
The Gang's next raid was the Katy train at Leliaetta, near Wagoner I.T., with Bob and Emmett, Bitter Creek Newcomb, Bill Powers, Dick Broadwell, Charlie Pierce, and Bill Doolin, robbing the express car of $2500.
In California, July 3, 1891, a jury found Grat Dalton guilty of the Alila train robbery. While awaiting sentence, Grat escaped from jail and made his way to Oklahoma to join his brothers. July 14, 1892 the gang made its last train robbery, as marshals on board a car surprised the gang in a shoot-out. The Dalton boys got away, splitting up from the others, to devise a 'foolproof' plan to rob two banks in the same town at the same time.
October 5, 1892, in Coffeyville, Kansas (the boys old home town) Bob, Grat, Emmett, Bill Power, and Dick Broadwell tied their horses in an alley, divided into 2 groups and entered the Condon National and First National Banks.
Recognizing the Daltons, citizens quickly armed themselves with weapons from the local hardware stores and took up positions. As the desperadoes tried to escape, a vicious gun battle took place, killing Bob Dalton, three members of his gang and four citizens.
Following the shootings, local townsfolk took turns posing for photographs with the corpses.

Budgeted at more than $15 million, Electronic Arts' video game version of Paramount's "The Godfather", noted as the company's first 'Mature' rated game, has finally hit the streets after 3 years in development as an interactive property.
"Godfather" film director Francis Ford Coppola, who does not share in the game's profits, reportedly 'disapproves' of the game, specifically its 'violent elements', and has branded it a 'misuse of film'.
"We're not trying to create the movie," said David DeMartini, exec producer of the game.
"We're taking it to a new medium with new consumers where we hope we can do something great..."
A "Godfather" video game sequel is already in the works.
Gamers will interact with the original story and characters from the film. Scenes will include the infamous horse head scene and the tollbooth shooting.
Actor Marlon Brando and other actors from the original film, including Robert Duvall, contributed their voices and the use of their likenesses for the game.
Other upcoming video games based on popular action films will include "Scarface" from Vivendi Universal Games and "Dirty Harry", with the participation of actor Clint Eastwood, from Malpaso and Warner Bros. Interactive.
Rockstar, the industry leader with their "Grand Theft Auto" games, currently have a video game based on the film "The Warriors".
Warner Home Video First For HD-DVD

Warner Home Video have set April 18 to begin marketing their first HD-DVD titles, making the company the first major studio to release titles in the high-definition format and the only studio to set a release date for movies on the specific format.
"Million Dollar Baby", "The Last Samurai" and "The Phantom of the Opera" will all street on HD DVD April 18, with the studio releasing 17 additional HD DVD titles throughout May, including "Batman Begins" and "Lethal Weapon".
"This is a new format where we are using new copy protection, new compression, new codecs," said the studio.
Hybrid discs featuring HD DVD on one side and standard DVD on the other will also be made available.
"Batman Begins", "The Dukes of Hazzard", "Constantine" and other select titles will carry HD DVD-specific bonus features that have never appeared on standard DVD versions.
All of Warner’s high-def titles, as well as it upcoming Blu-ray releases, will boast interactive user interfaces, with access to bonus features.
The company is currently showing an HD DVD trailer for "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride".

Avary and Gaiman Fall Into Paramount's "Black Hole" ...

Roger "Pulp Fiction" Avary and Neil "MirorMask" Gaiman are writing "Black Hole", described as a horror-romance feature that Alexandre Aja will direct for Paramount Pictures.
MTV Films, Plan B and Kevin Messick are producing.
"Black Hole" is a 10-year, 12-issue comic book series written/illustrated by Charles Burns.
When the work was completed last year, it was collected into a graphic novel, noted as Entertainment Weekly's top 10 works of fiction for 2005.
Premise of the story follows a group of high school students whose lives are altered drastically when they come into contact with 'the bug'.
CGI "Turtles" Coming Out Of Their Shell March 2007 ...

Warner Bros. Pictures will handle domestic distribution of the first all-CGI-animated film based on "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles", with the Weinstein Company handling international.
Warners will release the movie March 30, 2007.
The Weinsteins and Warners jointly acquired worldwide distribution rights last fall from Imagi Services, which obtained the production/distribution rights from the Mirage Group, which in turns owns and manages the franchise.
Animation veteran Kevin Munroe is directing/writing the project, having developed the screenplay in consultation with "Turtles" co-creator Peter Laird.
"'Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles' represents a brand that is widely recognized all around the world, " said TWC co-chair Harvey Weinstein.
The studio and TWC said the new PG-rated film will be slightly grittier than the three live-action "Turtles" movies released by New Line more than a decade ago.
Combined, those three films grossed more than $256 million at the domestic box office.
Imagi USA president-CEO Thomas K. Gray, who produced two of the earlier "Turtles" films, and Galen Walker are producing.
Francis Kao, Laird, Gary Richardson and Frederick Fierst are executive producers.
CGI animation is being created in Imagi's facility in Hong Kong.

Lionsgate Lining Up "Crash" TV Series ...

Building momentum from the first day of its May 2005 theatrical release, Lionsgate's contemporary drama "Crash" won the Academy Award(R) for Best Motion Picture, capping an 'underdog' triumph for the independent studio.
"Crash" also won a Best Original Screenplay Oscar for Canadian director/cowriter/coproducer Paul Haggis and an Academy Award for Achievement In Film Editing for Hughes Winborne.
Lionsgate, has now earned 25 Academy Award nominations and four victories over the past seven years, more than any other independent studio.
"Crash" also earned Academy Award nominations for Best Director (Paul Haggis), Best Performance By An Actor In A Supporting Role (Matt Dillon) and Best Original Song ("In The Deep," music by Kathleen "Bird" York and Michael Becker, lyrics by York).
The Oscar victory culminated an awards season where "Crash" earned a Screens Actors Guild award for Best Ensemble Cast In A Motion Picture, a Producers Guild nomination for Best Picture, a Directors Guild nomination for Haggis, a Writers Guild nomination for Best Original Screenplay (Paul Haggis and Bobby Moresco), nine BAFTA nominations (including Best Film and Best Director) and six NAACP Image Award nominations (including Best Film).
Lionsgate launched an unprecedented marketing initiative by sending out 130,000 promotional DVD screeners, for the film which has generated $54 million at the North American box office, selling approximately 4 million units on DVD.
A "Crash" 'Special Edition' DVD will be released April 4 and a Lionsgate Crash television series, reprising the character roles of the major cast members in the film is currently in development for the FX Network.
"'Crash' is a story I have wanted to tell for 10 years," said Haggis.
"The acquisition, marketing, publicity and distribution teams of Lionsgate have been the perfect partners..."
Lionsgate is currently on a winning streak, with the company's "Madea's Family Reunion" number one at the domestic box office for the second straight week, with a gross of approximately $48 million, and having the number one DVD in North America with Toronto-filmed "Saw II".
Lionsgate will continue its marketing strategies by re-releasing "Crash" for a second theatrical run.
Gaiman On "MirrorMask" and "Beowulf" ...
Comic book author Neil Gaiman, basking in the current Henson film adaptation of his "MirrorMask" and the recent casting announcement of Paramount's big screen treatment of "Stardust", recently revealed his thoughts to the UK's Guardian Unlimited, regarding the comic book-to-film process :
"Comics and movies have always been a two-way street," said Gaiman.
"Will Eisner's seminal "The Spirit", back in the 1940s, took from Orson Welles and the films noirs as much as it borrowed from radio or Broadway, and there have been movies made from comics pretty much as long as either medium has existed."
"I was writing a script for "Beowulf" last year, and, worried that a climactic airborne dragon battle was going a little over the top, I called the director, Robert Zemeckis, to warn him.
"Don't worry," (Zemeckis) said. "There is nothing you could write that will cost me more than a million dollars a minute to film."
"The comic is, joyfully, a bastard medium that has borrowed its vocabulary and ideas from literature, science fiction, poetry, fine art, diaries, film and illustration. It would be nice to think that comics, and those of us who come from a comics background, bring something special to film."
"I expect that the next subject of films will be breakfast-cereal mascots - a film that chronicles how 'Snap', 'Crackle' and 'Pop' met...Or the 'Tony the Tiger' movie."
"But I remain optimistic. While Frank Miller's film of "Sin City" isn't as powerful as his comics, it was still his vision up there on the screen in the film he made with Robert Rodriguez, uncompromised by the change from one medium to another.
"Nearly 20 years after the first "Batman" film, I realise that film doesn't confer legitimacy on comics...
"But it's still an awful lot of fun."
Pfeiffer and Danes Chasing Gaiman's "Stardust" ...
SNEAK PEEKFollowing up on our previous posts, the film trades are now reporting that Paramount has set Robert De Niro, Michelle Pfeiffer, Claire Danes, Charlie Cox and Sienna Miller to star in "Stardust," an adaptation of the Neil Gaiman novel to be directed by Matthew Vaughn.
Pic begins shooting in the U.K. and Iceland next month.
Vaughn, who committed to the fantasy project last fall, penned the script with writing partner Jane Goldman.
Lorenzo di Bonaventura is producing. Paramount is co-financing and co-producing with Vaughn's Marv Films and Ingenious Film Partners.
Michael Dreyer and Gaiman are also producing, with Steve Mark and Peter Morton executive producers.
Story concerns a star-crossed youth from the English village of 'Wall' who tries to win the heart of his true love by searching for a falling star, heading into a magical world where he must deal with a witch and a pirate.
Film will be the first for Vaughn since "Layer Cake".

Spielberg Puts Koepp On "Indiana Jones 4" ...
SNEAK PEEKAcording to Fox News, director Steven Spielberg will take a year off from his helming duties at DreamWorks.
Between November 2004 and October 2005, Spielberg produced and directed both "War of the Worlds" and "Munich.", expecting it will take two years before "Munich" makes its money back."

"I didn’t make it for the money".
Spielberg said his main work in 2006 will be preparing an "Abraham Lincoln" bio-pic with award-winning author Doris Kearns Goodwin.
When asked about "Indiana Jones 4" and the fact that producer George Lucas now has an acceptable screenplay in hand, Spielberg said, "George Lucas isn’t the director. I am."
The screenplay is by Jeff Nathanson, who wrote Spielberg’s "Catch Me If You Can" and "The Terminal".
"I have David Koepp on it now, and he’s my ‘closer,'", Spielberg said.

Gaiman Enchanted With Paramount's "Stardust" ...
Writer Neil Gaiman said director Matthew "Layer Cake" Vaughn is currently casting Paramount's big screen film version of Gaiman's "Stardust", based on the comic book series.
"The film starts shooting on location in Iceland for a couple of days in March, then starts shooting properly on the 21st of April at Pinewood Studios and on location in Scotland," Gaiman said.
"Some big star names, some people you've never heard of...I think my favourite thing about this, right now, is the sort of happy feeling that comes from knowing that it's unabashedly a fantasy film with a real budget, and it will be shot in the UK ..."
"Stardust" is the second solo prose novel by Gaiman, published with illustrations by Charles Vess, written in the tradition of pre-Tolkien English fantasy, similar in tone to the works of Lord Dusany.
Premise revolves around the adventures and romantic destiny of a young man living in the village of 'Wall', on the border of the land of 'Faeri'.
Conceived as a 'story book with pictures', "Stardust" was published in 1997 as a 'prestige' format four-issue mini-series, then released as a single book in 1998, followed by a hardback/trade paperback edition. Gaiman retained copyright to the text and in 1999 published "Stardust" as a conventional novel in hardback without illustrations, followed by a UK hardcover edition from Headline.
One of the characters in "Stardust" is a large talking tree with red leaves, based on singer/songwriter Tori Amos.
Initially the big screen adaptation of "Stardust" was set up at Miramax with Nicole Kidman in talks to play the female lead.
Vaughn is married to uber-model Claudia Schiffer and noted for directing "Layer Cake"starring Daniel Craig.
