Warner Home Video First For HD-DVD


SNEAK PEEK: BLU-RAY AND HD

Warner Home Video have set April 18 to begin marketing their first HD-DVD titles, making the company the first major studio to release titles in the high-definition format and the only studio to set a release date for movies on the specific format.

"Million Dollar Baby", "The Last Samurai" and "The Phantom of the Opera" will all street on HD DVD April 18, with the studio releasing 17 additional HD DVD titles throughout May, including "Batman Begins" and "Lethal Weapon".

"This is a new format where we are using new copy protection, new compression, new codecs," said the studio.

Hybrid discs featuring HD DVD on one side and standard DVD on the other will also be made available.

"Batman Begins", "The Dukes of Hazzard", "Constantine" and other select titles will carry HD DVD-specific bonus features that have never appeared on standard DVD versions.

All of Warner’s high-def titles, as well as it upcoming Blu-ray releases, will boast interactive user interfaces, with access to bonus features.

The company is currently showing an HD DVD trailer for "Tim Burton's Corpse Bride".
