Out of 10 million Americans drafted into the military during World War II, 'Operation Overlord' aka 'D-Day', June 6, 1944, saw 156,000 American, Canadian and Brit forces landing on beaches along a 50-mile stretch of the fortified coast of France's Normandy region to kill Nazis and to free Europe:
