Netflix is developing King Features live-action “The Phantom” TV series, casting ‘The Ghost Who Walks’ as an African black man, from writer/director Reginald Hudlin (“Black Panther”):
“…created by Lee Falks in 1936, the ‘Phantom’ is ‘Christopher Walker, Jr.’, the son of a seaman in the 16th century whose father's ship is boarded.
“The attackers leave young Christopher as the sole survivor. After he washes up on the shores of the fictional country of ‘Bengali’ and is discovered by the pygmies of the ‘Bandaranaike tribe, he vows to fight cruelty and injustice.
“The Bandar tribesmen show him a cave shaped like a skull, which becomes Christopher's new base of operation, and he crafts a new persona resembling a demon god.
‘Thus, The Phantom, "The Ghost Who Walks," is born. The mantle is passed on to Walker's descendants, including ‘Kit Walker’, in the 20th century.
