Development continues on New Line Cinema's adaptation of the Activision video game "Space Invaders", into a live-action 3D IMAX feature:
"Space Invaders" (1978) was created by Tomohiro Nishikado, manufactured and sold by Taito, Japan...
...then licensed in the US by the Midway division of Bally as an arcade game.
The game is noted as the first 'fixed shooter', earning points by eliminating waves of descending aliens with a horizontally moving laser.
Home versions and variations of the game are estimated to have earned over $13 billion in total revenue as of 2016, making it the highest-grossing video game of all time.
Producers of the new film are Weed Roads Pictures' Akiva Goldsman and Safehouse Pictures' Joby Harold, Tory Tunnell, with Warner Bros./New Line Cinema distributing.
