In 2024, US films grossed $585 million in China, earning 3.5 per cent of China's $6 billion (USD) year end gross box office.
Studios are freaking out because upcoming big budget releases including “Jurassic World: Rebirth”, “The Accountant 2” and “Mission Impossible: The Final Reckoning”, could lose out on hundreds of millions of dollars in the Chinese market, with promotional support already locked in.
According to the PRC commerce ministry, the US “…must properly resolve differences with China through dialogue, mutual respect and on an equal footing.
“Tariff wars have no winners and protectionism is no way out…”
