Live-Action “Lanterns”

HBO, in association with Warner Bros. Television and DC Studios, confirm that the new live-action DC Comics adaptation “Lanterns”, reportedly based on the 1970's "Hard-Traveling Heroes" comic book story arc, is a straight-to-series order of eight episodes, following two ‘intergalactic cop Lanterns' as they are lured into a dark, earth-based mystery:

“…’Hal Jordan’ is a former fighter pilot who works for ‘Ferris Aircraft’ as a test pilot, a member and occasionally leader of an intergalactic police force called the ‘Green Lantern Corps’.

“His powers derive from his ‘power ring’ and ‘Green Lantern’ battery, which in the hands of someone capable of overcoming great fear…

“…allows the user to channel their will power into creating fantastic constructs.

“Jordan uses this power to fly, even through the vacuum of space; to create shields, swords and lasers; and to construct his Green Lantern costume…

“..which protects his secret identity in his civilian life on Earth.

“‘John Stewart’ is an architect, later retconned into a veteran ‘US Marine’ from Detroit, Michigan, who was selected by the ‘Guardians’ as a backup for Hal Jordan after previous backup, hot-head ‘Guy Gardner’, was seriously injured after getting hit by a car.

“Although Jordan objected to the decision after seeing that Stewart had a belligerent attitude to authority figures…

“…the Guardians stood by their decision…”
