Actors Russell Crowe as 'Maximus' and Joaquin Phoenix as 'Commodus' both die in the 'Roman Arena' at the end of director Ridley Scott's "Gladiator" (2000), with Connie Nielsen as 'Lucilla' taking leadership of Rome. Now Scott continues the story with the upcoming DreamWorks feature "Gladiator II’, starring actor Paul Mescal, opening November 11, 2024 in theaters:
