Cancel Culture: “Pennyworth”

The live-action TV series "Pennyworth: The Origin of Batman's Butler", based on the early adventures of  'Alfred Pennyworth' (Jack Bannon), a former British 'SAS' soldier who arranges security in 1960's London, has been canceled after three seasons on HBO Max:


"...'Pennyworth' is based on DC characters created by Bob Kane and Bill Finger, following the legendary butler of 'Bruce Wayne', 'Alfred Pennyworth'...

"...then goes to work for 'Thomas Wayne', Bruce's billionaire father, in 1960's London, UK..."


Debuting in DC's "Batman" #16 (April 1943), 'Alfred Thaddeus Crane Pennyworth' is depicted as Bruce Wayne's loyal and tireless butler, housekeeper, legal guardian, best friend, aide-de-camp, and surrogate father figure following the murders of 'Thomas' and 'Martha Wayne'. 


As a Brit ex-Special Operations Executive operative of honor and ethics with connections within the intelligence community, Alfred has been called 'Batman's Batman'.


In film, the character has been portrayed by actors William Austin, Eric Wilton, Michael Gough...
