"The Woman King"

"The Woman King" is a new historical epic feature, directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood, based on a true story, starring Viola Davis, Thuso Mbedu, Lashana Lynch, Sheila Atim and John Boyega, opening in theaters September 16, 2022: 

"...set in the West African kingdom of 'Dahomey' during the 1820's, 'The Woman King' follows the all-female group of warriors, the 'Agojie', who protect the kingdom. The group's general 'Nanisca' (Davis) trains a new generation of warriors to fight against an enemy who wants to destroy their way of life..."
