Rossum, also noted as a television director and singer-songwriter is best known for her portrayal of 'Fiona Gallagher' in the TV series "Shameless".
Her breakout role was in Mystic River (2003), followed by the science-fiction feature "The Day After Tomorrow" (2004), receiving critical acclaim for her performance as 'Christine Daaé' in "The Phantom of the Opera" (2004).
"There's something safe about playing a character," said Rossum, "but then it's like, 'Who am I underneath it all?'
"I've been in the studio experimenting...trying out different producers, styles, sounds. With music, as opposed to acting, you are not playing a character. You are showing people who you are. I really want to have my spirit in it.
"But it's the best feeling when you wake up and it's warm and cozy, and you don't have to go to work..."
