"Top Gun: Maverick" is the upcoming $150 million budgeted action feature, directed by Joseph Kosinski and produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, as a sequel to "Top Gun" (1986), starring Tom Cruise reprising his role as 'Pete Mitchell' ('Maverick') , with Val Kilmer as 'Iceman', Miles Teller, Jennifer Connelly, Jon Hamm, Glen Powell and Lewis Pullman, opening May 27, 2022:
During late August 2018 a 15-person film crew from Paramount and Bruckheimer Films were aboard the Norfolk-based aircraft carrier 'USS Abraham Lincoln' shooting flight deck operations. Mid-February 2019, Cruise and the production crew were sighted on board 'USS Theodore Roosevelt' at 'NAS North Island'. Cruise reprises his role as 'Captain Pete "Maverick" Mitchell', a flight instructor and Kilmer reprises his role as (now) 'Vice Admiral Tom "Iceman" Kazansky', a fellow instructor and friend/former rival of Maverick.
In director Tony Scott's "Top Gun", "...students at the US Navy's elite fighter weapons school compete to be best in the class, as one hotshot young pilot learns a few things from a civilian instructor not taught in the classroom..."
