Leonard Bernstein - "West Side Story"

Netflix has acquired an untitled "Leonard Bernstein" biopic, focusing on the award-winning conductor who composed "West Side Story" and "The Great Escape",  to be directed by and starring Bradley Cooper for producers Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese and Todd Phillips, setting a 2021 production start:

Spielberg's reboot of 'gang musical' "West Side Story", using Bernstein's music from the original film, will be released December 9, 2021.

"...the new film will focus on the 30-year relationship between Bernstein and his wife Chilean-born actress 'Montealegre', his conducting debut at the New York Philharmonic at age 25...

"...his blacklisting as a communist, then being cleared before he composed the Oscar-nominated score for 'On the Waterfront'...

"...followed by a rousing and tragic score for 'The Great Escape', topped by 'West Side Story', his activism in the civil rights movement and outspoken views on ending the Vietnam War..."
