"Wolverine 3: Logan"

According to reports, the upcoming R-rated "Wolverine 3" Fox feature, opening March 3, 2017, starring Hugh Jackman reprising his role as 'Logan' the 'Wolverine', will be loosely based on the Marvel Comics storyline "Old Man Logan":

The original "Wolverine: Old Man Logan", was an eight-issue storyline from the 'Wolverine' ongoing series by writer Mark Millar ("Kick-Ass) and illustrator Steve McNiven. The series started June 2008, ran through "Wolverine" #66–72 and ended in "Wolverine Giant-Size Old Man Logan", September 2009, set in an alternate universe designated as 'Earth-807128'.

Set fifty years into the future, it uses a similar premise to another Millar book, "Wanted", in which the world's super-villains band together to finally destroy all superheroes.

A new volume of "Old Man Logan" debuted during the 2015 "Secret Wars" storyline, written by Brian Michael Bendis and illustrated by Andrea Sorrentino. This was followed by an ongoing series starting January 2016, written by Jeff Lemire amd again illustrated by Sorrentino.

"...the US has been conquered and divided amongst super-villains, with territories belonging to 'The Abomination', 'Magneto', 'Dr. Doom' and the 'Red Skull' who becomes the President. Heroes have been wiped out of existence, with the few survivors in hiding.

"'Logan' lives with his wife 'Maureen' and young children 'Scotty' and 'Jade' on a barren plot of land in Sacramento, California. Logan.

"Logan's 'Wolverine' persona died the day 40 super-villains attacked the 'X-Mansion'. Unable to locate his 'X-Men' mutant teammates, Wolverine slaughters the attackers to ensure the safety of the mutant children. But Logan then realizes the entire assault was an illusion and his perceived enemies were actually his fellow X-Men.

"This destroyed him emotionally and mentally, and he fled the Mansion..."
