"Kick-Ass" director Matthew Vaughn of "Kingsman: The Secret Service" fame has not only confirmed there will be a "Kick-Ass 3" with actress Chloë Grace Moretz reprising her role as female vigilante 'Hit-Girl', but there will also be a "Hit-Girl" prequel he will also direct:
"We’re working on an idea for a prequel, of how did 'Hit-Girl' and 'Big Daddy' become Hit-Girl and Big Daddy," said Vaughn.
"...hopefully that will be for the people that didn’t like 'Kick-Ass 2' ...
"...and then we can go off and make 'Kick-Ass 3'.
"I think we’ve got to do this prequel to regain the love that we had with Kick-Ass..."
"I love the idea of there being 'Hit-Girl' movies, " said "Kick-Ass" creator Mark Millar. "We have a crazy idea for it, and every now and then I think, is this too crazy?
"Because it's kind of insane. Would the world accept this?
"It makes 'Kick-Ass' look like 'Finding Nemo'.
"It's funny, because Hit-Girl was slightly pre-dated by about a year, before those kick-ass action heroine characters...
"...like 'The Hunger Games' and those kinds of things came along.
"And now I feel is a great time for her, so it could be really interesting."
The first "Kick-Ass" feature released in 2010 on a budget of $30 million, earned $100 million theatrical world-wide, selling over 1 million DVDs, scoring an additional $24 million.
"Kick-Ass 2" on a budget of $28 million, released in 2013, earned $63 million world-wide plus an additional $15 million in DVD sales.
Although those numbers are not blockbuster, there is a dedicated fan-base including director Quentin Tarantino, that supports Chloë Grace Moretz' portrayal as young female vigilante 'Hit-Girl'.
"I'd always planned it as three books and three movies," said Millar about "Kick-Ass".
