"Daredevil" TV Series Updates

The Netflix/Marvel, 13-episode TV series "Daredevil", debuts April 10, 2015 starring actor Charlie Cox as blind lawyer 'Matt Murdock' aka costumed superhero crime-fighter 'Daredevil':

"It does take place in the Marvel Cinematic Universe," said Marvel TV's Jeph Loeb . "It’s all connected... within the Marvel universe there are thousands of heroes of all shapes and sizes...

"...but 'The Avengers' are here to save the universe and 'Daredevil' is here to save the neighborhood."

"The way I like to think about it is that he is a man with fear", said Cox, "but he on a daily basis decides to confront that fear and to overcome it. So the title of ‘the man without fear’ is almost a title that the public in his world gives him just because of what he does. But inside himself, he’s very afraid at times. And he finds a way to confront those fears and punch through it."

As for super villain 'The Kingpin', played by Vincent D'Onofrio ("The Player") showrunner Steven DeKnight explained that "'Fisk' ('Kingpin)  has very many different aspects so it’s not all, ‘I want to conquer the city and make a lot of money.’ In our story, we tell the story of how he met his wife 'Vanessa' and how they fell in love — our antagonist actually has a love story.

"That’s the love story you’re following, the one you’re invested in, and seeing how that affects him and changes him. I think Vincent just brings such depth to it, his performance is just astounding."

Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and illustrators Bill Everett and Jack Kirby, the character first appeared in "Daredevil" #1 (April 1964).

"...living in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of New York City, 'Matt Murdock' is blinded by a radioactive substance that falls from an oncoming vehicle.

"While he no longer can see, the radioactive exposure heightens his remaining senses beyond normal human ability. His father, a boxer named 'Jack Murdock', supports him as he grows up, though Jack is later killed by gangsters after refusing to throw a fight.

"After donning a yellow and black, and later a dark red, costume, Matt seeks out revenge against his father's killers as the superhero 'Daredevil'...

"...fighting against his many enemies including 'Bullseye'  'Kingpin' and sometimes ally 'Black Widow'.

"Daredevil's nickname is "The Man Without Fear".

Daredevil has since appeared in various forms of media including animated series, video games, merchandise and the Fox feature starring Affleck, Jennifer Garner, Michael Clarke Duncan and Colin Farrell in a manic performance as the villain 'Bullseye'.
