'Oswald Cobblepot': 'The Penguin'



Sneak Peek new footage of actor Robin Lord Taylor as 'Oswald Cobblepot', aka 'The Penguin' in the upcoming Fox DC Comics adaptation, "Gotham", debuting September 22, 2014:


"'Oswald' has his fingers in every situation," said Taylor about playing the iconic comic book super-villain :


"...In the beginning, Oswald starts off as a toady, a grunt for 'Fish Mooney', who is a crime boss in 'Gotham City'. 


"When Bruce Wayne's parents are murdered, he sees that as an opportunity to make his move, to finally become someone of supposed power and status."


Created by illustrator Bob Kane and writer Bill Finger, the character was introduced in "Detective Comics" #58 (December 1941), as a man known for his love of birds and his specialized high-tech umbrellas.


A mobster and thief, he fancies himself as being a 'gentleman of crime'...


...with a nightclub business providing a cover for criminal activity.


According to Kane the character was inspired by the mascot of 'Kool' menthol cigarettes...


...featuring an emperor penguin in top hat and cane.
