Developed by Howard Gordon and Alex Gansa based on creator Gideon Raff's Israeli series "Hatufim" (aka "Prisoners of War") the US series stars Claire Danes as 'Carrie Mathison', a 'Central Intelligence Agency' officer with bipolar disorder and Damian Lewis as 'Nicholas Brody', a 'US Marine Corps Scout Sniper'. Mathison has come to believe that Brody, who was held captive by terrorists as a POW, was 'turned' by the enemy and now threatens the United States.
"...'Homeland' Season 3 opens during the aftermath of the horrific terror attack that decimated the US intelligence apparatus, and prompted a global manhunt for the world's most wanted terrorist, 'Nick Brody' (Lewis).
"As 'Carrie' (Danes) and 'Saul' (Mandy Patinkin) begin to pick up the pieces of their shattered professional and personal lives, they are swept up in the political and media firestorm surrounding the terror attack and the subsequent search for Brody's whereabouts..."
"Homeland" has won several awards, including the 2012 'Primetime Emmy Award' for 'Outstanding Drama Series' and the 2011 and 2012 'Golden Globe Award' for 'Best Television Series – Drama'.
Brit actor Damian Lewis ("Band Of Brothers") has also won the 'Primetime Emmy Award' for 'Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series', with co-star Danes winning an Emmy for 'Lead Actress in a Drama Series'.
