Oscar-Nominated Actor Is 'Rocket Raccoon'

Marvel Studios report they have cast an Oscar-nominated actor to voice wise-cracking 'Rocket Raccoon' in the currently shooting comic book adaptation, "Guardians Of The Galaxy".

Bradley Cooper ("Silver Linings Playbook") will play the character.

Inspired by the Beatles song "Rocky Raccoon", Marvel Comics 'Rocket Raccoon', was created by writer Bill Mantlo and artist Keith Giffen, debuting in "Marvel Preview" #7 (1976) as an intelligent, anthropomorphic raccoon.

Rocket is an expert marksman and master tactician, possessing normal attributes of an Earth raccoon, including speed, acute sense of smell, sight, hearing and touch.

In 1985, Rocket Raccoon received his own four-issue limited series, penciled by Mike Mignola and inked by Al Gordon/Al Milgrom.

Those back-issues are currently in high demand.

Rocket then appeared in a 1990 issue of "Quasar" (#15) and three issues of "She-Hulk" in 1992 (#44-46) as a prisoner on a 'Skrull' ship, before becoming a regular member of "Guardians Of The Galaxy" in 2008.
