Barris 'Batmobile' Bets Big



The original 'Batmobile', designed in the 1960's by car customizer George Barris has sold for $4.2 million  (plus $400,000 in fees) at an auction in Arizona.

The V-8 engine vehicle, used in the 1966 "Batman' TV series starring actors Adam West and Burt Ward is a built-up 1955 'Lincoln Futura' :


"When I created it (The Batmobile) I wanted to make it a star like Adam West and Burt Ward," said Barris, who produced the car in 15 days on a $15,000 budget. "It was not just a car."


Barris also designed 'The Black Beauty' Chrysler Imperial for the TV series "The Green Hornet", airing at the time as a companion series to "Batman".
