Pirates and Whores Make A Splash Under "Black Sails"

Starz reports that actor Toby Stephens ("Space Cowboys") will star as 'Captain Flint' in the new Michael Bay-produced "Treasure Island" prequel TV series "Black Sails", debuting on the network in 2014. The first season of 8 episodes promises as much sex and ultra-violence as Starz' "Spartacus" :

"...'Flint', the most brilliant and feared captain of all the 'Golden Age' pirates is commander of the ship 'Walrus'. Threatened with extinction on all sides, he and his crew fight for the survival of 'New Providence Island', the most notorious criminal haven of its day - a debauched paradise teeming with pirates, prostitutes, thieves and fortune seekers, a place defined by both its enlightened ideals and its stunning brutality.

"Flint adds a young stranger to his crew who goes by the name of  'John Silver' and sets forth on a plan that could alter the course of history forever..."

"Black Sails" will be executive produced by Bay and his Platinum Dunes partners Brad Fuller and Andrew Form. The series is created by showrunner and executive producer Jon Steinberg ("Human Target") and co-executive producer Robert Levine ("Touch").
Production is due to start later this year.
