DreamWorks reports it will develop author Daphne du Maurier's 1938, romantic suspense novel "Rebecca" for the big screen, with writer Steven Knight ("Eastern Promises") adapting a new screenplay.
"Rebecca' was previously adapted by director Alfred Hitchcock for producer David O. Selznick, in the 1940 feature starring Laurence Olivier, Joan Fontaine and George Sanders.
"..when a naive young woman marries a rich widower and settles in his gigantic mansion, she finds the memory of his first wife 'Rebecca' maintaining a grip on her husband and the household servants..."
