"Star Trek Online" Now 'Free-to-Play'

According to BigGameHunter, Perfect World Entertainment Inc. and Cryptic Studios, Inc., in association with CBS Consumer Products, are reporting on the launch and immediate availability of "Star Trek Online" Free-to-Play.

"Updating 'Star Trek Online' to the popular 'free-to-play' model removes those barriers of entry that previously kept fans and casual gamers away," said Jack Emmert, CEO, Cryptic Studios, Inc. "Anyone can download and play 'Star Trek Online' at no cost. There's no better way to see how sitting in the captain's chair feels."

Released February 2010, the 'massively multiplayer online role-playing game' (MMORPG), based on the "Star Trek" universe created by Gene Roddenberry, is set in the 25th century, 30 years after the events of the motion picture "Star Trek Nemesis".

In the game, each player is Captain of an individual ship, featuring references to storylines and characters from "Star Trek" TV episodes.
