"Red Tails" : May The Air Force Be With You

"Red Tails", the new WW II action feature funded solely by executive producer George Lucas and distributed by "Star Wars" studio 20th Century Fox, earned $19.1 million at the domestic box office over the weekend.

Incorporating Lucafilm Ltd.'s new 'Auro-3D 11.1' audio format, the film was inspired by the true, air force exploits of the first all African-American aerial combat unit.

"Red Tails" is directed by Anthony Hemingway ("Battlestar Galactica") for producers Rick McCallum and Charles Floyd Johnson.

Cast includes Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Bryan Cranston, Nate Parker, David Oyelowo, Tristan Wilds, Cliff Smith aka Method Man, Kevin Phillips, Rick Otto, Lee Tergesen, Andre Royo, Ne-Yo, Elijah Kelley, Marcus T. Paulk, Leslie Odom Jr., Michael B. Jordan and Daniela Ruah.

"Red Tails" was lensed in Prague, Italy, Croatia and England, from a screenplay by John Ridley.

"I've wanted to do this film for a great many years," said Lucas.

"'The Tuskegee Airmen' were such superb pilots that it was essential for us (ILM) to create visual effects that would live up to their heroism and put audiences in the cockpit with them."

The real 'Red Tails' served as pilot escorts for American bombers, flying missions over Italy and Germany in 1945.
