Watershed Moment For Online Advertising

In a new report released August 3, 2011, the Interactive Advertising Bureau of Canada found revenues from advertising online increased 23% from 2009 to 2010, overtaking daily newspapers. Online ad revenue exceeded $2.2-billion and outstripped print ads in Canada for the first time in 2010, with smart advertisers now banking on attracting attention through websites.

"Surpassing the $2-billion mark for online ad revenues and moving into second place in terms of overall ad spend in Canada is without a doubt a watershed moment for the digital community in Canada," said IAB President Paula Gignac.

As the internet now accounts for 16% of overall ad revenue, edging out daily newspaper’s 15% share, the IAB expects web advertising to bring in $2.6-billion by the end of 2011, with SneakPeek waiting to place your ad @ commandentertainment@yahoo.com

The IAB is an industry association representing digital advertisers in Canada. Ernst & Young LLP collected data for the survey from Canadian online publishers and ad networks who sell advertising. The report also used data from the Television Bureau of Advertising Inc. to compare the online advertising industry to television, print and other media.
