According to reports, Brit actress Carey Mulligan ("An Education") will play the lead 'Daisy' in director Baz Luhrmann's upcoming adaptation of author F. Scott Fitzgerald's "The Great Gatsby", opposite Leonardo DiCaprio ("Inception") as 'Gatsby' and Toby Maguire ("Spider-Man") as 'Carraway'.
"The Great Gatsby" was first published April 10, 1925, set on Long Island's North Shore and in New York City during the summer of 1922.
As a critique of the 'American Dream', the novel takes place following the First World War with American society enjoying unprecedented levels of prosperity during the 'roaring' 1920s as the economy soared. At the same time, Prohibition, the ban on the sale and manufacture of alcohol as mandated by the Eighteenth Amendment, made millionaires out of bootleggers.
"...'Nick Carraway' is a young bachelor from a Midwestern family, who graduates from Yale in 1915. After fighting in The Great War he settles in New York City to learn the bond business. Nick rents a small bungalow between two mansions in 'West Egg', a wealthy community on Long Island Sound.
"Across the bay is 'East Egg', inhabited by the 'old aristocracy', including 'Tom' and 'Daisy Buchanan'. Tom is a dilettante and Daisy, Nick's second cousin, although engaging and attractive, is pampered and superficial with a largely ignored three-year-old daughter.
"Soon Nick and the wealthy, mysterious 'Jay Gatsby' strike up a friendship following an invite to one of Gatsby's lavish parties attended by hundreds of guests. Eventually Gatsby confides to Nick that he was always in love with Daisy, a revelation that leads to sex, betrayal and murder..."

According to reports, Oscar winning writer William Monahan ("The Departed") will write/direct the period feature "Becket", for producers Patrick Milling Smith, John Hart and Brian Carmody.
Monahan will adapt the 1959 French play, "Honour of God" by Jean Anouilh, based on true events, previously adapted in 1964 by Hal Wallis Productions, for the Oscar-nominated Paramount Pictures release "Becket", starring Peter O'Toole and Richard Burton.
Paramount's "Becket", directed by Peter Glenville, was set during the late 12th century, 100 years after the 1066 Norman Conquest of England, that largely removed the Anglo-Saxon ruling class, replacing it with a French-speaking monarchy, aristocracy and clerical hierarchy.
The story line monitors the transformation of 'Thomas Becket', a Saxon protege and facilitator to carousing 'King Henry', who is appointed by the King as the Archbishop of Canterbury, formenting resentment on the part of Henry's Norman noblemen.
After Henry complains, during a drunken rage, that Becket is nothing more than a 'meddlesome priest', the indignant barons proceed to Canterbury, where they put Becket and his Saxon deputy, 'Brother John', to the sword. A badly shaken Henry then undergoes a penance by whipping at the hands of Saxon monks, followed by a public proclamation that Thomas Becket is to be ordained as a 'saint'.
Monahan's "Becket" will lense in the UK in 2011.

Director Darren Aronofsky ("The Wrestler") has revealed that the title of his upcoming "Wolverine" Marvel Comics adaptation for 20th Century Fox, starring Hugh Jackman, will be simply titled "The Wolverine".
Aronofksy said the new movie, will not be a sequel to director Gavin Hood's "X-Men Origins: Wolverine".
Sneak Peek reported in October, that the screenplay written by Christopher McQuarrie is based on writer Chris Claremont and artist Frank Miller's Marvel Comics "Wolverine" solo, 4-part 1982 limited series.
In the comic book series, 'Logan', aka 'Wolverine', the Canadian mutant with 'adamantium' retractable claws, is a 'ronin', or masterless, failed samurai who hides a deep-seated code of honor underneath his rage.
Logan travels to Japan to confront the woman he loves and the man that would keep them apart.
Claremont introduced the villain 'Shingen Yashida', a crime lord that is Wolverine's physical better. When his foe is eventually defeated, Logan prepares to settle down into wedded bliss with 'Lady Mariko', but the presence of new villains threatens to derail the peace, leading to a climactic battle between Wolverine and 'Silver Samurai'.
Also included in the stories are "X-Men" mutants 'Rogue', 'Cyclops', 'Storm', 'Kitty Pryde' and 'Nightcrawler'.
