Walt Disney Co is launching a new 'preschool' TV channel, 'Disney Junior', offering shows based on both Disney and Marvel Comics characters.
"Disney XD Channel is one of the biggest beneficiaries of Disney's ($4 billion) acquisition of Marvel," said Gary Marsh, president, entertainment, chief creative officer, Disney Channels Worldwide. "We've already scheduled between five and 20 hours of Marvel programming on our Disney XD channels around the world".
The 95 channels of Disney Channels Worldwide includes the 'Disney Channel', noted for "Hannah Montana", 'Disney XD' and 'Playhouse Disney', now rebranded as 'Disney Junior'.
"We decided it was time to give 'Minnie' her own plaftorm," said Marsh regarding an upcoming animated series starring 'Minnie Mouse' and 'Daisy Duck' in a hotel setting, described as "Laverne & Shirley" meets "Fawlty Towers".
Disney XD also plans to bring another new animated series "Tron: Uprising" to that cable channel , Summer 2012, with a voice cast including Elijah Wood, Canadian Emmanuelle Chriqui, Mandy Moore, Paul Reubens, Lance Henriksen and Bruce Boxleitner as 'Tron'.
