Lucas Sees "Star Wars" Saga In 3D

Producer/director George Lucas will re-release his entire Fox "Star Wars" franchise of movies (again), but this time with 'new 3D conversions', starting in 2012.

Episode I, "The Phantom Menace" would be the first feature to receive a conversion, taking a year to complete the process.

Currently, 3D features are limited to 2,000-2,500 3D venues, owing to an insufficient installed base of projectors and screens.

As for 3D TV technology, Samsung is currently penetrating the market with 50,000-plus 3D-equipped sets.
