"Boardwalk Empire" Debuts September 19

"Boardwalk Empire" is the new TV series from HBO, set in Atlantic City, New Jersey during the Prohibition era, starring actor Steve Buscemi.

The show is adapted from author Nelson Johnson's book, by Emmy award-winning writer/producer Terence Winter ("The Sopranos").

The pilot episode was directed by Martin Scorsese, who will be 'creatively involved' in the ongoing production.

September 1, 2009, HBO picked up the series for an additional 11 episodes, scheduled to debut September 19, 2010.

The HBO series 'tie-in' edition of author Johnson's book is now available with a forward by series executive producer Winter, a 16-page photo insert featuring 34 full-color photos of actors, producers, and sets from the HBO archive and a new 'afterword' by Johnson.

"In 'Boardwalk Empire', Nucky Johnson, Louis 'the Commodore' Kuehnle, Frank 'Hap' Farley, and Atlantic City itself spring to life in all their garish splendor. Author Nelson Johnson traces 'AC' from its birth as a quiet seaside health resort, through the notorious backroom politics and power struggles, to the city’s rebirth as an international entertainment and gambling mecca where anything goes..."
