Actress Rooney Mara has been cast as 'Lisbeth Salander' in Columbia Pictures’ three-picture English-language adaptation of author Stieg Larsson’s "The Millennium Trilogy" for director David Fincher ("Fight Club").
"The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" – the first film of the series, which also includes "The Girl Who Played With Fire" and "The Girl Who Kicked The Hornet's Nest", – starts shooting this September in Sweden, from a screenplay written by Steve Zaillian, for producers Scott Rudin, Cean Chaffin, Ole Sondberg and Søren Stærmose. Executive producers are Mikael Wallen and Anni Fernandez.
Co-starring actor Daniel Craig ("Casino Royale"), "The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo" is set for worldwide release December 21, 2011.
"The Millennium Trilogy" by author Stieg Larsson has been published in 44 countries and has sold more than 40 million copies worldwide.
