'The Destroyer' character, debuting in Marvel Comics' "Journey into Mystery" #118" (Jul. 1965), created by writer Stan Lee and illustrator Jack "King" Kirby, has appeared in numerous Marvel comic books, animated TV series, video games, action figures and trading cards.
'The Destroyer' itself is actually an 'enchanted' suit of armor forged by 'Odin', leader of the Asgardian gods. The armor is lifeless on its own, although it can act independently for short periods until animated by the life-force of a sapient living being, retaining a rudimentary base personality that will eventually subvert the host unless a strong-willed individual is in control.
Once animated, the Destroyer possesses super-human strength, the ability to project blasts of energy/heat/concussive force, emit a disintegration beam activated via a visor, manipulate electro-magnetism/molecules and enable flight.
"Thor", starring actor Chris Hemsworth ("Star Trek") will be released by Paramount May 6, 2011, directed by Kenneth Branagh ("Henry V")
