'Patience' Is A Virtue For "The Magdalena"

Producer Gale Anne Hurd's Valhalla Motion Pictures continues developing Top Cow Comics' fantasy thriller "The Magdalena" as a major motion picture.

The big screen comic book adaptation has Ryuhei "Baton" Kitamura attached to direct from a screenplay by Holly "The Butterfly Effect: Revelations" Brix.

Hurd, (currently developing "Terminator 5", as the original producer/co-writer with director James Cameron of 1984's "The Terminator"), will produce "Magdalena" for executive producers, Top Cow CEO Marc "Witchblade" Silvestri and Randy Greenberg.

Top Cow president Matt Hawkins will co-produce.

Premise of "The Magdalena", debuting in Top Cow's "The Darkness" #15 (June 1998), focuses on 'Mary Magdalene', the mythical 'wife' of Jesus who gives birth to daughter 'Sarah'. From this holiest of lineages springs the 'Magdalena', a royal bloodline passed from mother to daughter, designated as 'warrior-protectors' of the Church.

The Magdalena have the ability to see into the human heart, to show people the error of their ways and to offer a choice for redeeming sins, with only one woman in every generation, given to wielding the 'Spear of Destiny' as a weapon against evil.

Since the Middle Ages, the Church have been the Magdalena's employer, training them until they are ready to assume their mantle.

'Patience', the current Magdalena, abandoned her convent, forcing the Church's 'Inquisition' to send agent 'Kristof' to track her down. He finds her living homeless, off the streets of New York City with her companion, 'Rowan Barry' and offers to mentor her in preparation of the 'holy mission'.

Patience only fully accepts her destiny, when her girlfriend Rowan is suddenly abducted by agents of an evil force...
